NASCAR Camping World Truck Series owner Bobby Dotter was short a driver for this Friday nights Lucas Oil 225 at the Chicagoland Speedway so he called on Ohio racer Todd Shafer to fill the seat of the team’s No. 07 Thunder Exhaust Chevrolet.
Shafer had been scheduled to drive for the SS Green Light Racing team back in June at Kentucky; however, he fell ill on the eve of the race forcing him to sit out of the event. “When Bobby called and offered me a chance to get back behind the wheel at Chicago I jumped at the opportunity and while most drivers get paid, I told him I would drive for free for this chance.”
“In my opinion Bobby Dotter is one of the most honest, hard working owners in NASCAR,” Shafer continued. “He has dedicated his life to racing and over the years he has learned how to get the most with very limited resources.”
“I am very excited about several things for this weekend, Todd explained. “One, is I get to work with a great crew chief Jason Miller. Jason and I get along good and are looking forward to a good finish. Two, I get to take my wife, children and parents with me this weekend. And three, I get to take a few of my good friends and past crew members; Mark Smith, Terry Kick, Lester Garber, and Chris Shenberger to Chicago. I could not do this without all their efforts and hard work, and they get to assist the SS Green Light Racing crew of on the 07 truck.
“My 9-year old son Jonathan, who races USAC Quarter Midgets is especially excited to go because he gets to meet and talk to some of the NASCAR Sprint Cup stars of today,” he concluded.
The Lucas Oil 225 will prelude Saturday’s Nationwide Series Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300 and Sunday’s MyAFibStory.com 400 and is the 328th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team, a streak that dates back to 2001.
Practice for the Lucas Oil 225 will be Thursday, September 11th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Friday, September 12th qualifying will begin at 2:15 p.m. and the green flag will fly for the Lucas Oil 225 at 7:30 p.m. Central time. The race will be shown live on FOX Sports 1 and will also be broadcast via the Motor Racing Network and on SIRIUSXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
