On Aug. 24 at the O’Reilly Auto Parts 200, Austin Dillon, one of NASCAR’s newest stars, takes aim at his first checkered flag at Bristol Motor Speedway. Earlier in the week, however, he zeroes in on a different kind of target.
Dillon, the 21-year-old grandson of Richard Childress, along with his father, Mike Dillon, headline the Speedway Children’s Charities Shooting Stars Tournament, set for Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Shooter’s Edge Indoor Range and Training Center in Piney Flats, Tenn.
This new event, which benefits the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, is open to shooters of all skill levels. All participants will be placed on four-person teams and all will have the opportunity to shoot with the Dillons.
Entry fee for the tournament is $100 and includes training, use of a 22-caliber handgun, ammunition for 15 themed targets, including golf, poker and sharpshooter among others, and dinner. Some challenges will pit teammates against one another, while others will have teams battling each other. Participants also will have the opportunity to shoot a fully automatic weapon.
The tournament begins at 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at Shooter’s Edge, which is located in Piney Flats, just a few miles from BMS. Participants may register online at www.bristol.speedwaycharities.org.
