For the second straight race, SS Green Light Racing owner Bobby Dotter has called on a NASCAR K & N Pro Series East driver to fill the seat of the #81 Toyota Tundra. This week, in the American Ethanol 200 at the Iowa Speedway, Jimmy Weller will make his debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with support from Grime Boss Heavy Duty Hand Wipes.
Weller is a second-generation driver from Ohio who has made 20 starts in the NASCAR K & N Pros Series East over the last couple seasons. Since beginning his driving career in 2002, Jimmy has run in several different divisions including modifieds and sprints on dirt and numerous late models on asphalt. Jimmy’s father is still active behind the wheel of a big-block dirt modified.
“My dad has run big-block dirt modifieds back home and he bought his first car from Lou Blaney, we have been good friends with the Blaney family ever since,” he continued. “I ran the modifieds for a couple years and then a sprint car for a year, but I got hurt pretty good in one of those and had to take a year off. The doctors told me I needed to race something that doesn’t leave the ground as much and that was when I started driving late models on pavement.”
“I moved up to the PASS Series and had some success their winning at South Boston and then to the K & N East Series. We have run good, but just haven’t had the finishes to show it. We had a good run a Bristol in the opener this year starting tenth and finished eighth.”
Veteran crew chief Brian Berry will oversee Weller’s debut in the NCWTS from atop the SS Green Light Racing pit box.
“This is all happened within the last two weeks,” Weller said. “Mr. Gaulding is the one who put this deal together with Grime Boss and they got Bobby (truck owner Bobby Dotter) involved and we worked it out for Iowa. It all happened very quickly.”
“Ever since we started and made my mind up to make a living driving race cars the goal has been to keep moving up,” Weller concluded. “This opportunity to run the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is my opportunity to make the next step. I’m very thankful for Bobby and Mr. Gaulding to give me the opportunity to go ahead and do this.”
Owner Bobby Dotter has had numerous inquiries about David Starr who ran the first seven races of the season for the SS Green Light Racing Team, “David Starr will be back in the No. 81 Toyota later in the year,” Dotter explained. “Right now David is working on some additional sponsorship which will allow us to run more competitively when he returns to the seat.”
The American Ethanol 200 is the 301st consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the 1st career start for Weller in the Truck Series. The SS Green Light No. 07 will have another K & N Pro Series East driver making his debut in the NCWTS as Josh Reaume takes the wheel at Iowa.
