Ambrose Looks to Loudon for Burst of Momentum

Marcos Ambrose will head to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the second time this season in an attempt to regain some momentum. Ambrose is looking to repeat his performance of a month ago when the team rattled off four top-10 finishes in a row including a win at Watkins Glen. Ambrose has not had the results he had hoped in the last three races, but his new team led by Mike Ford will look for a fresh start at the one-mile Loudon track.

Ambrose is excited to get his second week under his belt with his new team and crew chief Mike Ford. Ford has an impressive resume at Loudon and hopes to add his knowledge to the teams’ strategies this weekend. He has one win, one pole, six top fives and 10 top-10’s to his credit.

The Australian native has seven starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. His best finish (ninth) at Loudon came in last year’s July race and his best start (12th) came in 2010. He has completed 2,071 of 2,076 laps attempted at the 1.058-mile track, leading six of them. Ambrose enters this weekend’s 318-mile race in 17th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

Don’t forget to tune into Sirius XM Radio on Channel 90, Friday at 10 a.m. ET for the Morning Drive with Pete Pistone and Mike Bagley to listen to Marcos talk about this weekend’s upcoming race in New Hampshire.

Ambrose on Racing at New Hampshire: “I’m ready to put last weekend behind us and get a fresh start in New Hampshire this weekend. It was unfortunate we struggled with mechanical issues the entire race and didn’t get a chance to showcase our abilities with my new team. It’s going to be a bit of a learning process until we all get to know each other a little better, but we’ll get there eventually. I thought our communication was better than expected last weekend, and we’ll look to improve that even more in New Hampshire. Mike Ford brings a wealth of knowledge to our team and his record at Loudon is stellar. I’m really looking forward to talking with Mike this weekend and hopefully improving in the areas where I’ve struggled in the past.”

Comments from Crew Chief Mike Ford on Going to Loudon: “One of the biggest challenges at Loudon is the flat nature of the track. We really have to have a lot of left-side weight through the corners if we expect to run good. Loudon has long straightaways and really tight turns. It’s very similar to racing at Martinsville. Brakes will be key and Marcos will have to be careful he doesn’t overuse them this weekend. It’s one of our shorter races, but one of the harder events on our racecar and equipment. It’s going to be very important that our Stanley Ford turns in the middle of the corners and has good drive off.

“We are going to try some new things this weekend and have a fresh approach. We had some struggles at Loudon earlier in the year, and we are looking forward to improving this weekend and getting our Stanley Ford a great finish.”
