Dillon and The Gecko net 13th place finish at the Brickyard

Ty Dillon and the GEICO team arrived in Indianapolis with heads held high after posting three top-20’s in as many weeks, two of which came at intermediate tracks that previously caused the group headaches. The 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season has been a turnaround season for Germain Racing and their weekend visit to the Racing Capital of the World would only serve to further solidify the theme that’s dominated the year.

 

Dillon bears a special connection to Indianapolis Motor Speedway that always leaves him excited to return to the historic facility. In 2014, he outhustled Kyle Busch to the finish line to record his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory. His familiarity with ‘kissing the bricks’ sits heavy in his mind and Sunday saw the young gun hustling to the front of the field in the hopes of revisiting the feeling.

 

Dillon and his No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 rolled off of the starting grid from the 29th position when the green flag gave way to 400-miles of intense racing action on Sunday afternoon. Dillon started off fast, but just four laps into the race, he reported to his Germain Racing crew that his racecar was tight in traffic. While they assured him they would make the necessary changes when the first pit stop of the day took place later in the stage, Dillon immediately got up on the wheel and began ascending up the scoring tower.

 

When the opening stage came to a close, Dillon had netted nine positions and was inside the top-20. The hard-charging driver was relentless in his effort to get to the front of the field and found himself in the 14th position during stage two. “You guys take care of me on pit road and I will make it happen out here on the track,” is the message that Dillon shared with the GEICO crew. Both parties honored their word and the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 would resist surrendering any positions as the race neared its end.

 

When the checkered flag waved over the famous yard of bricks after 160-laps of heated racing action, Dillon collected a 13th place finish and handed Germain Racing their best-ever result at the legendary Brickyard. It is also the GEICO team’s second top-15 finish in the last four races, and their fourth consecutive top-20 result, three of which occurred at challenging intermediate tracks.

 

“Today was another solid day for our GEICO team. We continued to make the car better and better throughout the race and were able to miss the accidents in front of us,” Dillon said after climbing from his GEICO Camaro. “I battled a tight car for most of the race, but Justin (Alexander) and I worked through adjustments together. I’m proud of my team for working hard all weekend and to finish 13th is more momentum for us to carry into next week. We continue to build our program and runs like this show that we are making gains.” 

 

The Entertainment Capital of the World now awaits Germain Racing for race number 27 of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season.

 

Ty Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 will hit the track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the weekend’s opening practice session on Friday, September 13th, at 4:35 PM (ET). Qualifying will follow on Saturday at 4:05 PM (ET).

                                                     

The South Point 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race is on Sunday, September 15th, and it will be televised live on NBCSN beginning at 7 PM (ET). The Performance Racing Network (PRN) will carry the live radio broadcast, along with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
