Difficult first practice at Pocono

MENCS first practice for the Gander RV 400 at Pocono raceway proved why the track has earned the moniker “tricky triangle”. Similar to last week multiple drivers found themselves struggling before the main event.

Kyle Larson, one of the most talented drivers in the garage, was first to crash making hard contact with the inside and outside barriers off of turn two. Fan favorite Chase Elliot found himself in the turn 1 wall shortly there after. Both teams were forced to back up cars with limited time to prepare before the second practice.

Daniel Suarez found himself P1 after first practice as the SHR Fords, Hendrick Cheverolets, and Gibbs Toyotas all posted fast times putting 11 of their 12 cars in the top 14. Alex Bowman was the lone exception as he posted the 20th fastest time.

Top Five: Daniel Suarez, William Byron, Aric Almirola, Martin Truex, Jr., Clint Bowyer

Originally from central New York, I was first introduced to NASCAR through my uncle. I quickly developed an interest in the sport that has only grown over the last 20 years. I have a bachelors degree in agriculture business from SUNY Cobleskill, and currently work as an operations manager in New Jersey. In 2017 I thru-hiked the Appalachian trail, and since have been focused on pursuing my passions in life such as motorsports.
