GEICO Military Team Set to Run at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday Night

The No. 13 GEICO Military team is headed to Kentucky Speedway riding the momentum of driver Ty Dillon’s career-best finish of fourth place at Daytona International Speedway last Sunday. The top-five finish also matched Germain Racing’s company-best finish that Casey Mears earned at Daytona International Speedway in July of 2014. The strong finish topped off a weekend in which Dillon was second fastest in the series’ first practice session and tenth fastest in the final session.

Dillon is no stranger to Kentucky and has found plenty of success at the intermediate track. This will be his fourth Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at the track. In his eight NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, Dillon has led 270 laps of competition and earned one pole award, three top-five and five top-10 finishes. He has competed in four Gander Outdoors Truck Series races at Kentucky, winning the 2013 event after leading 26 laps.

Honor and Remember

This week at Kentucky Speedway, Germain Racing will honor Private First Class Dale Bremerman Jr. of the United States Marine Corps. He was killed in action during the Vietnam War on March 1, 1967, in the Quang Ngai province of South Vietnam through hostile action at the age of 19. PFC Bremerman was honored with the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

Germain Racing’s general manger, Larry Rogers, knew PFC Bremerman as they shared the same small hometown of Naples, Florida, while growing up. Rogers was a student in the soldier’s mother’s biology class at the time of his death and remembers the sadness shared with the family by the students and community.

Germain Racing is honored to have PFC Bremerman ride along with Dillon in Saturday’s race.

Dillon Weekend Chatter
What are your thoughts as the GEICO Military team prepares for Kentucky Speedway with the new aero package?
“Every time we go somewhere new with this package it’s a different game. So, we don’t really know what to expect this weekend. This first year has been all about learning the ins and outs of this package and growing with it. Hopefully, as we continue to dial in this package, it will get stronger and stronger and feel pretty good at tracks like Kentucky. I’m looking forward to getting my GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 on track because Kentucky is a stronger track for me. I’ve had pretty solid runs there in the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series. I won a Truck Series race there in 2013 too.”

How does having won a race at a track help you when you go back?
“Having won at a track before gives you a lot of confidence when you’re preparing to go back. I know how to get to Victory Lane at Kentucky. Once you’ve already been to Victory Lane at a track, every trip back always includes heightened emotions. I think that I’ve led over 250 laps there in the Xfinity Series. I led a whole race once and lost it on a restart. But, I’ve had a lot of bright moments at this track, including the Truck Series win, and that gives me a ton of confidence every time I go back.”
