GEICO Racing Team Continues NASCAR’s West Coast Swing with Stop in Phoenix

#NASCARGoesWest continues this weekend with a race in the Phoenix desert. Ty Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 team will visit ISM Raceway for three days of on-track action that will culminate in Sunday’s TicketGuardian 500. This is the second event in NASCAR’s annual west coast swing. Teams competed at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last week and will head to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., next weekend for the final stop of the swing.

 

A special place for Dillon, he has always enjoyed competing at ISM Raceway. The one-mile track in Phoenix is the only track at which he has entered NASCAR K&N Pro Series West races, and he finished in the top five in both starts. In his Monster Energy NACAR Cup Series rookie season, he tied his career-best finish at the time with the GEICO Racing team. 

eNASCAR Heat Pro League Draft

 

The time has come for teams in the eNASCAR Heat Pro League to draft their drivers for the 2019 season! Drivers began competing in qualifying races in December for the chance to be noticed by NASCAR race teams and be drafted in the brand new eSports league. Germain Racing secured the second pick in the PS4 draft and the 13th pick in the XBOX draft. The draft will take place at 8:45 a.m. MST in ISM Raceway’s Victory Lane. It will stream live on NASCAR.com, Motorsport.com, Twitch and Caffeine.

Dillon Weekend Chatter
Is it going to be strange to adjust back to having downforce after a couple weeks without it in the new rules package?
“Phoenix is going to be a little bit strange after two weeks of less horsepower, but our GEICO Camaro ZL1 team will adapt pretty quickly. The weird thing is really going to be having all of that horsepower with the downforce. That is going to be unique. We are really going to be flying around these tracks that are less than a mile in a way that I don’t think our cars have ever done before. There is going to be a lot of adjustment, but I’m looking forward to all of it. There are a lot of differences in this package happening week to week, and it will affect how we build our cars and how I approach each track as a driver. My biggest challenge is going to be staying in the moment at the track we’re at and then hitting preparations for the next track hard in the following week.
 
How are restarts different now with the reconfiguration?
“We learned that literally painting a different line on the track can change the dynamics of a race. I thought it was awesome. I love when our tracks do something different. We’ve seen Charlotte do it with the Roval and Phoenix with the new start-finish line. Trying to add a new perspective or a new flair to the races is what keeps it entertaining. We need more of that from every single track. We need to be trying new things. These new elements are building our sport and driving interest for us in a new age.”
