Ragan Says Kansas ‘Catching Up’ to Other Tracks

Ragan on Kansas

“Last year, Kansas was really a great race. You can run the middle, the top, the bottom. And our Front Row cars have run well there the last couple years. We’ve worked really hard on our mile-and-a-half program, and I think we’ve been able to see some of the fruits of the labor. So, we’re excited to get to Kansas and see where our cars have evolved.

“We’ve got a lot of mile-and-a-halfs on the schedule this summer. Kansas is a race where, after we’ve had some short tracks and a superspeedway at Talladega, we’ve had some time to work on our cars after the Texas race and improve them. It’s always fun to unload and see those first couple of laps how we stack up.

“When they redid Kansas a few years ago, it was super fast. But you were just glued to the bottom. And I think the hot Kansas summers and cool winters have aged that asphalt at a faster rate than maybe Michigan or Last Vegas or Charlotte did. Kansas has almost caught up with those other tracks from a grip level and a tire-wear perspective. So, it allows Goodyear to bring a little more aggressive tire. And we’re still really fast, but it does provide for a good race.”
