NASCAR announced penalties following the weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Wednesday morning. The penalties cover all three of NASCAR’s national series and nearly each one of them were discovered during post-race inspection and involved lug nuts not properly installed.
Crew Chief Rodney Childers, who led the No. 4 Ford of Kevin Harvick to victory lane on Sunday at Atlanta, which led 181 of the 325 circuits, has been fined $10,000 for lug nuts not properly installed.
There were a pair of penalties handed down in the NASCAR XFINITY Series garage.
Tim Brown, crew chief of the No. 52 Chevrolet with driver David Starr, and Mike Shiplett, crew chief of the No. 42 Chevrolet with driver John Hunter Nemechek, were both fined $5,000 for not properly installed lug nuts.
The biggest penalty of the weekend came down in the Camping World Truck Series.
During the 130-lap truck race on Saturday, Kyle Busch, driving the No. 4 Toyota Tundra, left his pit stall prematurely as there were some confusion on how many tires to take. As a result, shortly after Busch left his pit stall, a wheel fell off the truck just beyond the exit of pit road.
Marcus Richmond, crew chief of the No. 4 Toyota Tundra, rear tire changer Coleman Dollarhide and jackman Ernie Pierce, have each been suspended for the next three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races for violating section 12.5.2.6.3 (Minimum Safety Penalty Options Note: Improperly installed wheel. Wheel came off vehicle following a pit stop).
The crew members will be missing Las Vegas, Martinsville and Dover. They are eligible to rejoin the series at Kansas Speedway on May 11.
