Germain Racing 2018 Preview

Germain Racing will see a bit of a facelift in this upcoming season. While keeping driver Ty Dillon in its stable, there has been a change on the box for 2018. Veteran crew chief Matt Borland will be atop the box, replacing longtime crew chief Bootie Barker. In 2017, the no. 13 team secured 24th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings, leading forty laps and averaging a 20.7 average finish, which is a team best for the GEICO sponsored machine.

As for expectations for the team, I can only see improvement for the driver entering his sophomore full time cup campaign. This team exceeded my expectations in 2017, almost winning at Dover in the spring race, only to be spun out of certain top five finish on the last lap. For the first time since 2012, the Germain Racing GEICO sponsored entry will have a new look on track. While the colors haven’t changed, the look of the car has changed for 2018. Also returning is Twisted Tea for their limited schedule as a primary sponsor, while also maintaining their associate sponsor status for 2018. With its Richard Childress Racing affiliation returning once again in 2018, I predict this team will secure a top twenty finish in points, and if they place themselves correctly like they did in Dover, perhaps sneakily grab a win, securing a playoff spot for the first time in the team’s history.
