Whitt Secures 12th Place Finish in Monster Energy Open

Cole Whitt, driver of the RTIC Coolers TriStar Motorsports No. 72, finished 12th in the Monster Energy Open Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The 50-lap event was the prelude to the Monster Energy All-Star Race and consisted of three stages (20 laps, 20 lap, 10 laps). The winner of each stage advanced to the main-event.

Whitt qualified the RTIC Coolers No. 72 securing a 16th place position in the starting line up for the Open. Stage 1 ran caution free for the duration of the 20-laps. Whitt completed Stage 1 in the 17th position and relayed the handling was “way loose in and tight center off.” Pitting under the Stage 1 completion caution, Crew Chief Frank Kerr made the call for four tires, two rubbers out of the left rear, a round out of the right rear, and fuel the RTIC Coolers No. 72 sending Whitt back out on track to take the green flag restart 15th.

Stage 2 was a green flag run for the entirety of the 20-lap segment. The adjustments from the pit stop made the handling tighter and caused lack of rear grip. Completing Stage 2 in the 14th position, Whitt came in under the Stage 2 completion caution for four tires and chassis adjustments.

Taking the green flag restart 15th, the third and final Stage consisted of a 10-lap shootout. Two cautions due to incidents plagued the final laps of the Open. Whitt remained steady in his approach and took the checkered flag 12th concluding the day in the RTIC Coolers No. 72.
