After three rounds of group qualifying, the grid for the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway is set. 40 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers started in round one. The field was then narrowed down to 24 for round two and 12 for round three. No eliminations were made.
Matt Kenseth is the driver who will lead the field to green on Sunday afternoon. The driver of the No. 20 DEWALT FLEXVOLT Toyota laid down speeds and lap times in the first two rounds of 28.928 seconds, 190.826 MPH and 28.243 seconds, 191.198 MPH. It was a lap time and speed of 28.112 seconds, 191.198 MPH that earned him his third pole in 22 races at Kansas. As a matter of fact, the top three starters came out of the Toyota camp.
Kyle Busch will start in second front row position after posting his 22nd top-10 start of 2016. The spring Kansas winner posted a round-one time of 28.332 seconds, 190.597 MPH. He then led round two with a lap time of 28.106 seconds, 192.130 MPH. The No. 18 M&M’s Toyota driver was back to second in the final round of qualifying with a lap of 28.113 seconds, 192.082 MPH.
Rounding out the top three is Carl Edwards in the No. 19 XFINITY Toyota. He ended round one in the fourth-place position with a lap time of 28.451 seconds and a speed of 189.800 MPH. In round two, Edwards was 10th on the board at 28.408 seconds, 190.087 MPH. The Columbia, Mo. native earned his ninth top-10 start at Kansas.
Bank of America 500 winner Jimmie Johnson finished 10th in round one with a 28.486-second run. The speed on the driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet in the first round was 189.567 MPH. In round two, Johnson came up short and would not advance to round three. He recorded a lap time and speed of 28.575 seconds, 188.976 MPH.

I didn’t decide I wanted to pursue a career in NASCAR until the summer of 2012. I’m not a wrench head or strong enough for a pit crew so media was the next best thing. At the beginning of 2013, I started going to races and making connections within the sport. I also studied Motorsports Management at Sports Management Worldwide. Although I love what happens on the track, I’ve always been interested in what goes on behind the scenes and I’ve gotten to know many people throughout the radio, TV and digital media world.
While I’m a long time writer, 2015 was my first year actually covering the sport with www.nascarfemale.com . I also became a media correspondent for Raceline. I’ve been able to help the TV show gain recognition on social media. My current goal is to acquire more experience in covering NASCAR and move up the media ladder. Outside of motorsports, I have been an equine-sports statistician for 16 years.
I currently reside in Gillette, WY where I’m still involved with horses. I enjoy riding them, rodeo, swimming, traveling and meeting people.
