Greg Biffle was on his way to a solid finish at the “Monster Mile” when a late-race pit road speeding penalty relegated him to an 18th-place finish in his No. 16 Ford EcoBoost Ford. Biffle started the race 25th due to qualifying being rained out, led for a total of seven laps through green flag pit cycles, but ultimately suffered from the speeding penalty late in the race.
Rain once again affected another NASCAR race weekend. The weather Friday evening washed out qualifying, lining Biffle up 25th for 400 laps on Sunday afternoon. Biffle began his forward march through the field, despite being a little tight through the corner in the Ford EcoBoost Ford. By the competition caution on lap 36 he had worked his way up to 18th.
Biffle continued his forward march, even cracking the top 15 before another pit stop cycle lead to a set of tires that did not agree with his Ford. The race was filled with long green flag runs and Biffle lost a lap to the leaders while battling the tires. Biffle was the “lucky dog” recipient around the middle part of the race, but continued to battle grip and turn.
The long green flag runs continued and Biffle once again found himself a lap down to the leaders. In attempt to utilize pit strategy to make up some lost ground on the track, Biffle waited longer than others to make a routine green flag stop. Biffle led for seven laps before visiting pit road.
Biffle was looking at a solid finish when he was caught speeding on pit road on his final pit stop with less than 20 laps to go. Biffle served a pass through penalty and ultimately crossed the finish line 18th.
