Joey Logano Shell-Pennzoil Ford to carry Mosaic paint scheme in the Sprint Cup Chase

In 2016 Shell, Pennzoil and Team Penske looked to celebrate their on-going alliance and Penske’s 50th anniversary by doing what they have always done best together– win races and perform on track. Part of the celebration included plans to run the distinctive mosaic paint scheme on Joey Logano’s No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion in the Sprint Cup Chase featuring photos commemorating Team Penske’s first 50 years.

With 439 wins over the last 50 years, Team Penske has built a racing legacy that has set the standard for performance and success, both on and off the track. For much of that time, Shell and Pennzoil have been a technical partner and a major part of that winning heritage.

In May, Shell and Penske revealed the full body mosaic paint scheme on Joey Logano’s Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion for the 32nd NASCAR All-Star race. On that hot Saturday night, with Shell technology under the hood, Logano and the team once again tasted victory with his teammate Keselowski in tow for a 1-2 All-Star finish.

The mosaic scheme, which features over 500 individual images of Team Penske and Shell motorsports history, found victory lane in its debut race. With much fanfare, the livery also ran at the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where team owner Roger Penske has seen so much success in his 50 year career as an owner.

Pennzoil was a major part of Penske history in the early 1980s with Rick Mears and the “Yellow Submarine” in IndyCar competition – winning three Indianapolis 500 crowns and multiple open wheel races and championships.

In 2011, Shell and Pennzoil returned to Team Penske and continued to build on those accomplishments. Pennzoil began introducing their Pure Plus technology into the special blend used by the No. 22 and No. 2 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Team Penske entries, resulting in the first-ever Sprint Cup title for Roger Penske. Since 2014, no other NSCS team has amassed more Cup wins than Team Penske, who did it with just two full-time teams.

Over in the open wheel world, Penske claimed his 13th IndyCar title with driver Will Power in 2014. Power’s 12,000 rpm V6 twin-turbo engine was protected all season long by the consumer grade Pennzoil Platinum Pure Plus 0W-40 right out of the bottle.

Team Penske is once again eying the IndyCar title in 2016 as three Penske drivers occupy the top four spots in the series standings with two races to go.  To date, Penske teams have amassed nine wins through 15 IndyCar races.

The Pennzoil race oil in the No. 22 NASCAR race car is formulated using PurePlus™ Technology, a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into a first-of-its-kind, high quality full synthetic base oil. This pure, clear PurePlus base oil has fewer of the impurities found in traditional base oils made from crude oil, allowing it to fully enhance the benefits of the additives in Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum™ Full Synthetic motor oils. In addition to blending a unique formulation for the Ford engine from week to week, Shell and Pennzoil scientists also tailor high performance lubricants for the Team Penske gearbox.
