Hometown Denny Hamlin to Start on the Pole at Richmond

It took 26 races for Hamlin to make his way to a pole run in 2016 in which he did so at his home town track Richmond. Hamlin bested Michigan winner Kyle Larson with a lap of 122.344 mph.

“It’s my hometown; I would probably be a little more aggressive going for a win going into the Chase” Said Hamlin.

Hamlin will be starting in the top-10 for the 24th consecutive time in 2016 with the pole here at Richmond.

Larson followed closed behind Hamlin for the outside pole with a speed of 122.288 over Kenseth 122.244, McMurray 122.189, and rounding out the top-5 Kurt Busch at 122.144.

Buescher who is pinning his chances on going into the chase didn’t make it past the first round of qualifying and will roll off 31st with a 11 point lead over David Ragan who needs 12 points to knock Buescher out of Chase contention, Ragan for his effort will start from the 21st starting position.

Cole Whitt was the only car to go home.

The Federated Auto Parts 400 will go green just past 7:30 pm (EST) from Richmond International Raceway Saturday night.
