NASCAR History plays role in Michael McDowell’s racing motivation

As the NASCAR industry gets set to honor the past at Darlington Raceway, Sprint Cup Series driver Michael McDowell is looking forward to participating in the the track’s throwback weekend. The driver of the No. 95 Thrivent Financial Chevrolet will be honoring NASCAR legend Richard Childress during the Bojangles Southern 500 and is inspired by all the stories being told throughout the race weekend.

“Darlington’s throwback weekend has been fun to watch and I’m excited to participate in it this year,” stated McDowell. “It’s fun for the fans, and it’s really fun for the crews and drivers as well. I was born in the early ‘80s so my favorite throwbacks would be from around 1995, but I still love learning the history of the era each year. It’s cool to learn who ran what car and what their story is. I think the teams do a good job of telling those stories which is fun for me, as I’ve only been in the sport a short period of time and don’t know all the history.”
