Biffle Collected in Multi-Car Accident Resulting in 39th-Place Finish

Monday, Aug 08 1414

Greg Biffle started the Cheez-It 355 from the 24th position and was looking good to earn a solid finish thanks to a fast No. 16 Cheez-It Ford combined with pit strategy.  A wreck unfolded just past the halfway mark and with nowhere to go Biffle was hit from multiple directions.  The damage ended their day and resulted in a 39th-place finish.

“It just looked like the No. 17 started wrecking up in front of us,” said Biffle.  “I started slowing up to avoid it. I remember the No. 24, a vivid memory of him going up and hitting and coming back across. I started slowing up because I wasn’t sure where the No. 17 was going. I thought he was coming back across so I started slowing up and got wrecked from behind. They were on both sides of me. They hit me from behind and both sides to send me spinning. It is tough. You can’t see up there. There are no spotters over there either so it is hard. It is hard to spot that area anyway. We are kind of on our own.

“We had a good car and were set up for a great strategy right there. We thought we were going to be short on gas but then it turns out we were going to have enough to make it.”

From the drop of the green flag Biffle reported back to his team that his No. 16 Cheez-It Ford Fusion was very loose.  Despite the loose handling condition, he began to advance through the field, gaining four spots by his first chance to pit under caution on lap 14.  Biffle was serviced with four tires, fuel and wedge adjustments but the loose handling condition continued.

Biffle’s next trip to pit road came under caution on lap 49 where he received four tires, fuel, wedge and shim adjustments.  Biffle restarted 25th due to the four tires and as multiple pit strategies were unfolding.  A mid-pack wreck unfolded leaving Biffle with nowhere to go resulting in a trip to the garage for the No. 16 Cheez-It Ford.  The damage was too severe to repair, resulting in a 29th-place finish.
