Penalty Report – Pocono

Three days after the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway, a total of two penalties and four written warnings were handed down to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams earlier this morning.

Kurt Busch’s No 41 Monster Energy/Haas Automation Chevrolet received a P2 penalty that falls under Sections 12.1; 20.4; 20.4.16; 20.4.2 in the NASCAR rule book. After pre-race inspection, the car’s right-rear quarter panel was modified. Crew chief Tony Gibson, who sat out the previous Pocono race while Busch earned his first win of the season, has been fined $10,000 and continues to be on NASCAR probation through the end of the year.

Chris Buescher’s winning No. 34 Dockside Logistics Ford team was tagged with a P1 under Section 12.1; 12.5.3.2.1 for their gas man being on the service side of pit wall with a face shield up. Crew member Josh Patch has been fined $1,000.

Kyle Busch’s No. 18 M&M’s 75th Anniversary Toyota and Martin Truex Jr’s No. 78 Furniture Row Toyota failed template inspection three times before qualifying. Along with a written warning, both teams will lose 15 minutes of practice time at Watkins Glen.

The No. 7 APC Chevrolet of Regan Smith and the No. 23 USA Network Toyota of David Ragan were given written warnings for failing laser inspection twice before the race. The No. 13 GIECO Chevrolet of Casey Mears and Michael McDowell’s No. 95 Malwarebytes Chevrolet acquired the same penalty during pre-qualifying inspection.

Smith, Ragan and the No. 42 Target Chevrolet of Kyle Larson were also issued written warnings after they failed pre-qualifying template inspection twice.
