Brian Scott to Make First Sprint Cup Series Start at Watkins Glen International This Weekend

Continuing to navigate through his rookie Sprint Cup Series season, Brian Scott will be making his first start in the series at Watkins Glen this weekend. Scott has a lot of experience in road course racing, as he competed in several more road course races in the XFINITY Series compared to the two annual races on the Sprint Cup Series schedule. The 2.5-mile, seven-turn road course recently went through a major repave, leaving drivers anxious to see how the cars will react to the brand new racetrack. Scott and the No. 44 Shaw’s team recently tested at The Glen and feel confident that the notes they took throughout the two-day test will give the team an advantage heading into Sunday’s race.

Scott will be making his first start in the Sprint Cup Series this weekend at Watkins Glen, but he has plenty of experience in the XFINITY Series. Through six starts in the XFINITY Series, Scott has three Top-10 finishes and six Top-15 finishes. His highest finish is sixth, which came at last year’s XFINITY Series race. Scott has also found success on road courses through his career, with two Top-Five and seven Top-10 finishes in 18 road course races.
Shaw’s Supermarket will make their second appearance on the hood of the No. 44 Ford Fusion this weekend at Watkins Glen International. Shaw’s is one of the oldest continuously operated supermarkets in the United States with New England roots dating back to 1860, when George C. Shaw opened the first store in Portland, Maine. A few years later, Maynard A. Davis opened the first ‘Public Markets’ in New Bedford and Brockton, Massachusetts. Throughout five New England States, there are 154 store locations employing approximately 19,000 employees.

Scott will be making a special appearance at the Watkins Glen Tweet-Up this weekend on race day. Fans can follow Scott at @bscottracing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“I got the chance to test the new repave last week, so we were able to see what the new asphalt is all about. Watkins Glen was fast with the old asphalt, and it’s still pretty fast with the repave. I like road courses. Watkins Glen for me in the XFINITY Series didn’t produce the same results that we had at road courses like Mid-Ohio and Road Atlanta, but I like it and I’m looking forward to checking it out. The inner loop has a lot of lap time. You don’t think that there is. You feel like you can make it through there and not give up much time. But when you start looking at some of the data, you realize that pushing hard through there gives you a lot of speed and can really help your lap times.”
