Greg Biffle knows his way around the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway. Biffle won the inaugural race in the Truck Series at Kentucky in 2000 and fell just short of winning the inaugural XFINITY race in 2001, finishing second. Biffle has competed in all five Sprint Cup races at Kentucky and most recently tested there.
“With any track repave the very first race there are a lot of unknowns,” said Biffle. “I spun out twice in testing at Kentucky. Turns One and Two are quite a bit different. It’s got more banking. Three and Four are still pretty flat, difficult entry and then it’s got that progressive banking as you exit. Widening out that entry into three is where a lot of guys struggled during the test.”
Biffle has finished second in the XFINITY Series three times at Kentucky Speedway 2001, 2002 and 2004. A win has eluded Biffle in the Sprint Cup Series at the 1.5-mile tri-oval, but with his history at the track, the repave and the new handling package Saturday night could be his shot.
“It’s a tough race track, but a fun place,” said Biffle. “One small bump coming off Turn Two but we are pretty much straight when we go over it so much nicer inside the car. I raced there when it was brand new and was able to win the very first race so I’ve got my fingers crossed that I might be able to pull that off again.”
