Bayne Finishes 25th in Sonoma

Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, recorded a 25th-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

“We just couldn’t get the track position when we needed it,” said Bayne after the race. “We had some good speed throughout the race and tried some different strategies out there but we just couldn’t get that track position to make some moves. We learned a lot today which was good but we’ll move on from this and get after it next week in Daytona.”

Bayne took the green flag for the 110-Lap event from the 28th position, but was able to race his way into the top 25 in the early stages of the event with an AdvoCare Ford that was tight in both the right and left-handed corners. Bayne’s climb forward continued as he raced up to the 15th position during the first round of green flag pit stops before hitting pit road on Lap 25.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native cycled back into 28th following the green flag stops and maintained his track position throughout much of the middle portion of the event. A caution just after the second round of green flag pit stops on Lap 86 gave Bayne an opportunity to move his way back forward as the field of 40 was tightened up once again.

The driver of the AdvoCare Ford took the ensuing restart from the 28th position and drove his way back into the top 25 in the closing stages of the race.

Bayne would eventually hold off Roush Fenway Racing teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to earn the 25th-place finish.

With the result, Bayne trails the 16th and final position in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship standings by 24 points.
