Austin Dillon’s Strong Weekend Capped Off with Top-10 Finish for the No. 3 Dow Veterans Salutes Team at Michigan International Speedway

“We thought we had enough speed to have a shot to win today in the Dow Veterans Salutes Chevrolet so we are a little disappointed even though a top-10 is a great day.  Obviously, we didn’t have everything we needed today, but our main issue is that we never really got the track position we needed.  I thought our first restart was good and we were running solidly in the top five, but the caution came out after we pitted and we did not get in front of race leader Jimmie Johnson before the caution came out, so that hurt us.  But, I’m proud of my guys. They made some good adjustments on pit road to get us back in the game.  We had a good last restart and a key factor in that was restarting on top. That top line really moved today. I don’t know what people thought of the new lower downforce package that we debuted today, but in my opinion it was pretty hard to pass because it made our cars really free.  Everybody has wanted to go in that direction, but there is only so far that we can go. We are not all Superman out there, so downforce is king.”

Never-Give-Up Attitude Helps the No. 27 Knauf / Menards Chevrolet Team Earn 18th-place Finish at Michigan International Speedway

“We came a long way this weekend in Michigan. Justin (Alexander, crew chief) and the guys made good adjustments before the race. Our car was good on the short run, but we had to work a little on the long-run handling. Overall I’m happy with where this Knauf / Menards team ended up today considering how the weekend started. These guys never give up.”

Ryan Newman and the Grainger Chevrolet Team Score 11th-place Finish at Michigan International Speedway

“I apologized to the Grainger crew at the end of the race because we were a sitting duck on the final restart. Overall, I can’t complain.  It was a good day for us. We led laps, ran in the top 10 all day and the pit crew was on their game. We are definitely making gains as a team. It was a good day and now we can recharge with the off weekend.”
