Untimely Pit Stop for Flat Tire Leads to 26th-Place Finish for Biffle at Pocono

Greg Biffle was saving fuel and was in good shape to pull off a top-10 finish at Pocono Raceway when a flat tire under green sent him to pit road with just a few laps remaining.  The untimely stop cost him a lap to the leaders and resulted in a 26th-place finish for the No. 16 Ford EcoBoost Ford.

Mother Nature washed out all hopes of racing Sunday afternoon at Pocono, pushing the 160-lap race to Monday.  Biffle started the race 15th in his No. 16 Ford EcoBoost Ford after narrowly missing advancing to the final round of qualifying.

Biffle struggled from the drop of the green flag with a super loose Ford that needed the nose down on the track.  On the first opportunity to pit, the team serviced Biffle with four tires, fuel, wedge and pulled a right front shim.

The adjustments still weren’t enough and Biffle requested more on the next stop.  Similar adjustments throughout the course of the race helped with handling and had Biffle in a good position.

Biffle was poised to crack the top 10 on the track as the race winded down and turned into a fuel mileage battle.  Biffle had enough saved while others did not, but a flat right-rear tire under green sent him to pit road for an unscheduled pit stop.

The pit stop put Biffle a lap down the field and with so few laps remaining there was no opportunity to get the lucky dog award.  Biffle crossed the finish line 26th in his No. 16 Ford EcoBoost Ford.
