Historical Landmark to be Unveiled at Upcoming PettyFest

The Petty Museum will once again host its annual PettyFest Saturday, May 28 at its historical grounds in Level Cross, N.C. This full day celebration of the past, present and future of the Petty Museum, Petty’s Garage and the Petty Family Foundation will include many family-fun activities and also bring back history of the Petty family legacy.

Richard Petty and the Petty Museum will unveil the restored reaper shed, a historical landmark where the original Petty Engineering and later Petty Enterprises was begun by Lee Petty. The A-frame building was built in the early 1940’s and had a dirt floor and tin roof. It was the humble beginning in what turned out to be the most successful organization in NASCAR history. The shed has been restored to showcase its time in the 1940’s and will feature the restored car that Lee Petty raced to begin the family dynasty.

The Petty Museum and Petty Family Foundation will also bring back and sell the original merchandise of Adam Petty, the fourth-generation driver of the Petty family. All Adam Petty merchandise was pulled off the market after his accident in 2000. The family will now continue to honor Petty by selling his merchandise to help aid others, a characteristic that defined Petty. Original Adam Petty hats and shirts will be on sale with proceeds to benefit the Petty Family Foundation. The Foundation will then donate funds to support Victory Junction, the camp built in honor of Adam. Additional donations will go into the college tuition fund of Adam’s nieces and nephews.
