In his 41st NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start, Matt DiBenedetto, driver of the No. 83 Cosmo Motors Toyota Camry for BK Racing, scored a career-best sixth-place finish in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
“It’s going to take a night of sleep to sink in,” an emotional DiBenedetto said. “I am so happy for all the team, they deserve it for all the hard work they put in to make our cars better each week. It was a team effort today, not just me.”
After starting in the 30th position, DiBenedetto worked his way into to the top-20 on lap 77 and began preserving his equipment for the end of the race.
With less than 100 laps remaining, the 24-year-old California native, drove his way into the top-10 and was running 8th when the final caution flag flew on lap 192.
The race restarted with just five laps to go and DiBenedetto battled with Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Trevor Bayne and Greg Biffle to grab two more positions.
DiBenedetto’s finish also marked a company milestone for BK Racing, now in its fifth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
“This was a great day for Matt, and a great day for our entire organization,” said team owner Ron Devine. “We’ve continued to work through the challenges that every team encounters. Our goal each week is to achieve small victories. Today we accomplished that goal. I’m very proud of everyone at BK Racing.”
