Vickers Finishes 37th at Texas

After starting 13th and running as high as fourth in the Duck Commander 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Brian Vickers finished a disappointing 37th. A pit-road spin on lap 112 of the 334-lap contest around the 1.5-mile oval proved to be too much to overcome for the driver of the No. 14 TaxAct Military Files Free Chevrolet.

“I got to pit road speed and then the No. 15 (Clint Bowyer) just stopped. I had them locked up, but I had nowhere to go. It was weird,” said Vickers, who had top-10 finishes in two of his last three races at Texas. “He went to like, half pit road speed and I just got into the back of him and locked it up. I didn’t see that coming. That put us behind the rest of the night.”

The contact with Bowyer’s No. 15 machine was minimal, but the time lost on pit road was substantial. Vickers had to serve a pass-through penalty the next time by and restarted a distant 32nd, two laps down.

Mired in traffic, the tight-handling condition Vickers had been dealing with from the beginning of the race was exacerbated. His No. 14 TaxAct Military Files Free Chevrolet plowed through the track’s corners. Meanwhile, the leaders were running at a fast clip. The combination over the ensuing laps eventually put Vickers another lap down, thwarting any attempt at making up lost ground.

Then, with less than 40 laps remaining, Vickers was caught up in a multicar accident that put him out of the race.

“It was a long day. That wreck just finally ended it for us,” Vickers said. “It’s unfortunate. I was really proud of the effort by the guys all weekend, and it was great having TaxAct Military Files Free on the car.

“We fought the handling throughout the race. We thought we were good the first run. We kind of lost it after that, but we still worked hard on it. The guys kept making it a little better. We just couldn’t get what we needed. It wasn’t our night.”
