NSCS: Testing Concludes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams spent all day on Thursday preparing for Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The drivers had five hours of testing on the 1.5-mile oval with an hour break for lunch.

Jimmie Johnson led the way in the first session with a lap of 27.982 seconds, 192.961 mph. around the track. Johnson finished 12th fastest in the afternoon session with a lap of 28.552 seconds, 189.129 mph. and had the best 10 consecutive lap average. The California native enters the weekend looking to surpass Dale Earnhardt Sr. in Sprint Cup Series victories.

Rounding out the top-five in the morning session included Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Brian Vickers and Danica Patrick.

Aric Almirola ended the second test session as the fastest driver after three hours of on-track activity. Almirola posted a lap of 27.988 seconds, 192.940 mph. on his 30th trip around the oval in the session. The Florida native sat 25th fastest in the morning session.

Rounding out the top-five in the afternoon session included Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney, Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle.

Only one on-track incident occurred when Denny Hamlin smacked the wall early on in the afternoon session. Hamlin and the team will not get a penalty as the race weekend will begin tomorrow afternoon when the Sprint Cup Series takes the track at 1:30 p.m. ET. for practice. Teams will be allowed to remove engines and change cars without a penalty.
