Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing looks to build 1.5 mile program at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

After a challenging race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing team is looking forward to the upcoming test session and race weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) – another 1.5-mile speedway where the team will have additional time to dial-in their intermediate track competition program.

NASCAR driver Michael McDowell will pilot the No. 95 WRL General Contractors Chevrolet SS during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend at LVMS.

“The Vegas test day is very important to us because we haven’t had the opportunity to work on our mile and half package,” said McDowell.  “Atlanta was a struggle and we have to have time to work on those things.  So, this test day in Vegas will be important for our team.”

McDowell, a Glendale, Ariz. native, has six NSCS starts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with his best finish (30th) coming last year.  He notes that LVMS has uniqueness to it that stands out among the other 1.5-mile speedways on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit.

“Vegas is different than the other mile and a half race tracks,” said McDowell.  “It’s a fast race track and grip is decent.  The weather can be tricky there and wind usually plays a big factor.  It’s certainly a different type of track than the other mile and halfs like Charlotte and Atlanta.  But if you get your car working well on the mile and half tracks, you’ll be good everywhere.”

Crew chief Dave Winston is looking forward to the extra time at the race track this weekend.

“We’ll have five hours of practice at the track on Thursday – that’s five hours that we haven’t had so far,” said Winston.  “It’s a great opportunity for us to sit back and take a look at what we have and analyze the data instead of rushing around during a race weekend.”

“This is the first season for this small team to go full time, so our goal is to get better at each track and improve at each race,” he continued.  “Track time and time spent working together are key elements that will help us get better each week.”
