Statement from Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch on the passing of Barney Hall

“Although I knew of Barney Hall prior to being named Senior Manager of the Winston Cup program for R.J. Reynolds in 1999, I did not know him personally. But, once I hit that milestone in my career a long-standing friendship began between us.

“Along with another MRN personality, Dick Brooks, we flew to and from a lot of NASCAR races together. The three-card guts games and comradery that went on during those plane rides were some of the best times of my life.

“Barney was an amazing broadcaster of our sport and coined the phrase “They don’t race anywhere like they race at Talladega.” I heard him say it many times and I am sad that I will not hear it again.  All of us here at Talladega Superspeedway will miss him and will keep his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days.”
