Greg Biffle to Unveil New Sit for a Pet Education and Adoption Center

Friends of the Animals will unveil its site for a new Pet Education and Adoption Center that will be constructed in 2016.  Board members plan to unveil the site following a brief program at the Langtree Plantation at 11:00am on Saturday, January 9.  The press is invited to attend.

“Donors, volunteers and vested members of the community are invited to celebrate the milestone,” said Patrice Reynolds, executive director of Friends of the Animals. Two-time NASCAR champion Greg Biffle will be a featured speaker. Biffle is a dedicated member of the Friends of the Animal’s board of directors, having served in various capacities. He has taken this project to heart and continues to go the extra mile to better the welfare of animals in our Lake Norman region and throughout the United States.

Inspired by his love for his own dogs as well as the stories of thousands of mistreated animals across the country, Greg became involved with Friends of the Animals to help improve the well-being of animals in the area in which he lives.  “It’s tragic that 77 dogs and cats a day are euthanized in the greater Lake Norman region,” says Biffle.  “When we started dreaming of this project, it was close to 100.  And although the rate of euthanasia has gone down over the years thanks in part to the work by many local animal rescue groups, the numbers killed are still staggering. The new center will help save more homeless dogs and cats!”

Biffle’s persistence and dedication to the cause he very much believes in has led to hundreds of animal welfare agencies throughout the country receiving financial help through his personal foundation.  The Greg Biffle Foundation is a lead supporter of the Friends of the Animal’s Pet Education and Adoption Center.

The construction of the Pet Education and Adoption Center will enable Friends of the Animals to fulfill its mission to promote responsible pet ownership, provide low-cost spay/ neuter services and promote adoption of homeless pets. The planned 11,500-square-foot facility will house boarding space for adoptable dogs and cats, a medical clinic and education center.  Low cost spay/neuter services will be phased in after the center is open as well as educational programming for students.

P.S. West Construction Company will oversee the project that is expected to begin in the spring of 2016 and be completed by the end of the year.  Initial plans to build the center off Langtree Road at Exit 31 were modified when the organization realized the infrastructure would not be available for several years.  The search for and then acquisition of new land took more than a year, but the organization is delighted to remain in the same vicinity with easy access off of I-77 at Exit 31 and Exit 33.

“We will be poised to serve the entire Lake Norman area, and are delighted by the beautiful 2.5 acres that has the feel of a sanctuary,” says Board President Maria Haughton.

The pet education and adoption center was designed by Bacon Group Architecture out of Clearwater, Florida, who has an extensive background in animal shelter design.  Local Davidson architect Roger Layman of LaBella Associates is also closely involved with the project.  The building was designed to fit the property with the opportunity to expand in the future.
