NSCS: Jeff Gordon Captures CampingWorld.com 500 Pole

Jeff Gordon will start on the pole for the CampingWorld.com 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday afternoon. Gordon earned the pole with a time and speed of 49.234 seconds, 194.500 mph. when the final round of knockout qualifying came to a close late afternoon on Saturday. The 43-year old captured his 81st career Sprint Cup Series pole.

Kasey Kahne will start in the runner-up position when the field goes green on Sunday afternoon. Kahne found himself 0.219 seconds behind the pole winner when the session came to a close. The Washington native will use the second-place start as momentum as they look to capture their first win of the 2015 Sprint Cup Series season. Kahne enters the weekend with three top five and nine top 10 finishes in 2015.

Jimmie Johnson will round out the top three starters for the CampingWorld.com 500 on Sunday. Johnson posted a lap of 49.467 seconds, 193.584 mph. around the 2.66-mile oval in the final round of qualifying. The California native enters the weekend with four victories, 12 top five and 19 top 10 finishes.

The time laid down by Martin Truex Jr. has been disallowed by NASCAR after going below the yellow during his time trial. NASCAR announced before the Talladega Superspeedway weekend that drivers will not be allowed to go below the lines in qualifying.

Two drivers will go home after 45 drivers and teams appeared on the entry list. These two drivers will be Jeb Burton and Michael Annett.
