NSCS: Joey Logano Victorious in Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway

Joey Logano will leave the Kansas Speedway victorious after hanging onto the lead in a green-white-checker finish after making contact with leader Matt Kenseth. Logano sent Kenseth around that brought out the final caution of the race in turn two. The No. 22 Ford gave Kenseth a run for his money all afternoon as the two raced side-by-side for the lead for most of the afternoon. The 25-year old captured his 13th career win in 250 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts. Kenseth had to settle with a 14th place finish after being spun by the race winner.

Denny Hamlin will walk away with the runner-up finish in his No. 11 Toyota for the Joe Gibbs Racing team. Hamlin started the afternoon in fifth and stayed inside the top 10 for most of the time. The Virginia product holds two wins, 13 top five and 17 top 10 finishes after the Hollywood Casino 400 on Sunday.

Jimmie Johnson finished the 400-mile event in third-place behind the wheel of his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet. Johnson had some work to do after taking the green flag in the 21st starting position. The California native will continue to play spoiler in the remaining Chase for the Sprint Cup races after being eliminated at the conclusion of round one.

Brad Keselowski captured the pole on Friday for the Hollywood Casino 400 and were unable to translate that into a win. The Michigan native finished the afternoon in ninth and will go into Talladega next weekend sitting seventh in points. The driver for Penske Racing will need a good finish if he wants to transfer into the next round of the Chase.

Logano will lead the series standings with two victories in the last two consecutive races. Hamlin sits 13 points behind Logano as the series will leave the Midwest portion of the United States. Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick each round out the top five.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will head off to the Talladega Superspeedway for the Alabama 500. Coverage will begin on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET. on NBC Sports Network. Fans can also listen to live radio coverage provided by the Motor Racing Network.
