Biffle Finishes 24th at Charlotte

Rain on Saturday turned the night race at Charlotte Motor Speedway into a Sunday afternoon event.  Greg Biffle had a fast No. 16 Roush Performance Ford in qualifying Thursday night earning a fourth-place starting position.  Biffle lost track position during the race while working on handling and suffering from a loose wheel under a green flag run.  In the end, handling improved and Biffle was able to earn a 24th-place finish.

The NASCAR weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway kicked off on Thursday with practice and qualifying.  Biffle had a fast Roush Performance Ford in both and claimed the fourth starting position for what should have been a Saturday evening race.  Mother Nature had other plans, changing the Saturday night race to Sunday afternoon.

In the opening laps of the 334-lap event Biffle moved up to second from his fourth-place starting spot before quickly losing positions while battling a Ford that he described as “driving like it has no front tires.”  The team tried different combinations of shim, wedge and air pressure adjustments to help improve handling.

Early on in the race, Biffle was given a penalty by NASCAR for speeding on pit road setting him up at the tail end of the longest line for the restart.  Shortly after the penalty, the team had to make an unscheduled green flag pit stop for a loose wheel.

Cautions never fell the way that the team needed to overcome the penalty and loose wheel to get back the lost track position.  In the end the No. 16 Roush Performance Ford was a solid top 15 car but was forced to settle with a 24th-place finish.
