Lowes Foods Makes Sprint Cup Series Debut with Hornish and No. 9 Team

This weekend, Lowes Foods will make its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut as a primary sponsor at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway with Sam Hornish Jr. and the No. 9 Ford team. Both the team and sponsor will be competing under the lights at their home track.

As an organization, Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) has solid stats at the 1.5-mile track and will make its 35th start at Charlotte since its inception in 2009. At Charlotte, RPM has one pole, three Top-Five and eight Top-10 finishes with an average finish of 19.8 among eight different drivers.

Hornish will make his ninth Sprint Cup Series start at Charlotte this weekend. He scored his best finish of 13th in the series in May 2008. Hornish has seven XFINITY Series starts at the 1.5-mile track, accumulating one Top-Five and two Top-10 finishes and earning his best finish of third in October of 2013.

Atop the pit box, veteran Crew Chief Kevin Manion has visited Victory Lane at Charlotte with Jamie McMurray in October 2010. In 19 starts, Manion earned one win, two Top-Five and three Top-10 finishes.

Hornish will be signing autographs at the Fanatics tent in the Fan Zone Saturday, October 10 beginning at 3:10 p.m.

“For most of the teams, Charlotte is always a favorite on the schedule because it’s like a home event. There are usually a lot of family and friends at the track, which makes it a fun weekend. Charlotte is another track that can turn into a fuel mileage race, which was the case for the Coke 600 in May. We made a lot of improvements to the car throughout the race in May, and I’m looking forward to using that progress as starting point for a solid finish this weekend.

“This weekend, we have Lowes Foods on the car for the first time. The cool thing about having them on board is that they are headquartered just an hour away from the racetrack, so not only is it the home track for our team, but it’s the home track for our sponsor as well. We’re looking forward to welcoming them to the RPM family.”
