The gates first opened in 1990 to what is now known as New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. Built as a 1.058-mile oval, the track soon earned the nickname “The Magic Mile.”
Now 25 years later, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams head to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Sylvania 300, Danica Patrick and the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS team for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) will be looking for some magic of their own.
Patrick’s 2015 season got off to a solid start with two top-10 finishes and five top-20s in the first eight races. At that point, she was ranked 13th in the Sprint Cup driver standings but, after a rough summer stretch that included accidents at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in June, Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in July and Darlington (S.C.) Raceway earlier this month, Patrick finds herself 23rd in the standings coming into this weekend’s race.
As the Sprint Cup Series returns to New Hampshire this weekend, Patrick and her No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet team are looking to turn things around and put those rough weekends in the rearview mirror.
Entering Sunday’s race, Patrick has made five Sprint Cup starts at New Hampshire with a career-best 19th-place effort there in September 2014. In two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, she finished a career-best 14th in July 2012. Patrick also earned a sixth-place result in the 2011 IndyCar Series race at the track.
The weekend ahead at “The Magic Mile” could provide a great opportunity for the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet team to rekindle some magic and get back on solid ground to close out the 2015 season.
