After long green flag runs during Sunday’s MyAFibStory.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. drove his Fastenal Ford to an 18th-place finish.
“We just couldn’t catch a caution when we needed to take the wave around,” Stenhouse said. “It was a good run for us and we need to keep having solid runs these last nine races and keep building as we get ready for the 2016 season.”
After qualifying was rained out on Friday setting the field by practice speeds, the Olive Branch, Mississippi native lined up in the 27th position and quickly maneuvered his Fastenal Ford inside the top-20 within the first 28 laps.
Despite battling a tight handling machine for the majority of the race, the two-time XFINITY champion was scored in the top – 20 for a majority of the 267-lap race.
When the final caution was displayed on lap 258, crew chief Nick Sandler and Stenhouse decided to stay out because they knew track position would be key for the final five lap shootout.
Stenhouse lined up 18th in his Fastenal Ford and was able to hold off the other cars on his lap to take the checkered flag in the 18th position; gaining one position in the drivers’ point standings.
