NBC Sports breaks down the NASCAR Playoff system in new campaign featuing Rutledge Wood

NBC Sports Group tapped motorsports reporter Rutledge Wood to drive a humorous explanation of NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup playoff system in a new NBC Sports promo making its debut this week.

Developed by NBC Sports Agency, the multi-platform marketing promotion coincides with the final races of the NASCAR season and helps educate fans on NASCAR’s playoff system. The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup begins Sunday, September 20, from Chicagoland Speedway on NBCSN with 16 drivers competing through four elimination rounds prior to NBC’s presentation of the Championship race from Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 22.  The field of 16 drivers competing in the 2015 NASCAR playoffs will be finalized during this Saturday night’s primetime race at Richmond International Raceway, coverage on NBCSN begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.

“We were looking to create something both entertaining and educational that speaks to long-time NASCAR fans, as well as newcomers to the sport,” said Bill Bergofin, Senior Vice President, Marketing, NBC Sports Group. “Rutledge visually breaks down the playoff system in a humorous way, speckled with cultural mentions.”

The long-form version of the spot is available to be viewed and embedded via NBC Sports’ Youtube platform (click here to access). It can also be found by clicking over to the NASCAR on NBC Facebook and Twitter pages. As the NASCAR playoff field narrows through Challenger, Contender, Eliminator and Championship rounds of the Chase, additional videos featuring Wood’s entertaining style of education will be activated. Rutledge Wood joined NBC Sports Group in 2014 and contributes weekly to NBC’s coverage of the storied raceways, unique towns and enthusiastic fans that make NASCAR an American treasure.
