YMCA of Bristol Honored by Nathan’s Famous, Food City and American Icon Richard Petty

Thanks to Nathan’s Famous, the world famous hot dog company, the YMCA of Bristol was celebrated for being a leader in the community and making active play possible by NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Richard Petty on Saturday afternoon before the race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

As part of its Ready. Set. PLAY. initiative with national non-profit KaBOOM!, Petty surprised John Mack, Chief Operating Officer at the YMCA of Bristol, with a $1,000 Food City gift card towards the purchase of groceries, courtesy of Nathan’s Famous.

“We had a great time at the race track on Saturday and really appreciate all that Nathan’s Famous did for us,” said Mack. “They really surprised us with our visit with Richard Petty. I know that’s something that our kids will never forget. We can’t thank them enough for the groceries from Food City. That will be a huge help as we have several events coming up and are operating on a tight budget. Thanks, Nathan’s!”

Guests from the YMCA of Bristol were greeted at the speedway by the Richard Petty Motorsports team and escorted to the garage area to meet the Hall of Famer. Petty then surprised the group with the $1,000 Food City gift card. Those in attendance stayed at the famed race track to watch Richard Petty Motorsports driver Aric Almirola race in Saturday night’s Irwin Tools Night Race.

The Ready. Set. PLAY. initiative is a partnership created in 2014 by Nathan’s Famous with KaBOOM!. Ready. Set. PLAY. celebrates play and the local leaders who are making active play possible in communities across the nation.

“Nathan’s Famous is all about fun, family and community,” said Mike Paribello, Sr. Director of Marketing, Nathan’s Famous. “We are really proud of our Ready. Set. PLAY. partnership with KaBOOM! and are thrilled to champion active play by donating $1,000 of free groceries from Food City to the YMCA of Bristol.”

“It’s good to see our partner Nathan’s Famous giving back to organizations that allow kids the opportunity to be active,” said Petty.  “Every child deserves the right to play and today’s grant will help an organization like the YMCA of Bristol keep moving forward.”
