Ryan Blaney unveils special Snap-On paint scheme celebrating Wood Brothers at Darlington Raceway

Ryan Blaney, driver of the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, took part in a special media event today where the 21-year-old unveiled a special Snap-on paint scheme that he will run during the Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
The No. 21 Snap-on Ford will carry a special scheme honoring the rich history of the Wood Brothers Racing team and their 65 years in the sport.  The retro, mosaic scheme will feature over 2,000 photos of the Wood Brothers dating back to 1950.  The Wood Brothers team has earned eight wins in NASCAR’s top series at Darlington Raceway and 98 in the Sprint Cup Series since their inception 65 years ago.
“I’ve seen drawings of the car but to see it in real life, I think it looks great,” said Blaney.  “Just to get to drive the No. 21 for the Wood Brothers is an honor. So to run a car that honors their history in the sport and what they’ve accomplished over the years is even more special.  With Darlington trying to do a retro, throwback feel to their race and Snap-on stepping up and allowing us to run this scheme, I think it will be one of the fan favorite cars out there.”
The unveil was a part of the August 4th Bojangles’ Southern 500 Media Day. Blaney and 2014 Sprint Cup Series Champion Kevin Harvick participated in a fan question-and-answer session followed by a simulated “cannonball run,” eventually arriving at the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion, where the No. 21 Snap-on Ford Fusion was unveiled.
“We are honored that Snap-on would want to run a car honoring our history in the sport,” said Eddie Wood.  “We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish in the last 65 years and the fact that we are still going strong.  Darlington is one of the tracks that really holds a special place in our heart as a race team, so we are pretty excited to see what the car looks like on the track.”
The Wood Brothers and Snap-on Tools pairing brings together two companies that have been at the forefront of innovation.  The Wood Brothers helped innovate the pit stop, now a key part of motorsports across the world.  Snap-on pioneered interchangeable socket wrenches 95 years ago and has been revolutionizing the professional hand tool industry ever since.
“When this idea was brought up to us, we thought it was a good program for our brand,” said Yvette Morrison, vice president of marketing for Snap-on Tools.  “We are excited to be a part of the Darlington race with Ryan and the Wood Brothers team.  The fact that we can help honor the rich tradition of the Wood Brothers team with the retro, mosaic paint scheme is something we are proud to do."
The Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway is set for Sunday night, September 6th.  The race will take the green at 7:00pm ET.
