CHEVY NSCS AT INDIANAPOLIS: Jeff Gordon Accident Quotes

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 3M CHEVROLET SS – involved in accident with No. 15 (Clint Bowyer) on Lap 50.  Quotes captured while in the garage for repairs:

WHAT HAPPENED FROM YOUR VIEW?

“I don’t know. I was underneath Kasey Kahne and we were just racing for position. I saw (Clint) Bowyer get sideways. I don’t know what caused it. Me and Kasey were trying to check up to avoid it. I don’t know if he got loose or we just both got loose together. Then I just lost control and got in the wall.”

WHAT’S THE CREW WORKING ON, AND CAN THEY GET YOU BACK OUT FOR MORE POINTS? “Yeah, we’re never going to give up. We got back out there as fast as we could. The splitter was too torn up on the front and creating lift. The car didn’t have any front downforce and was pushing bad. We’re probably going to cut the nose off, put a new nose on and get back out there.”

YOUR CREW IS WORKING TO GET YOU BACK ON THE TRACK. CAN YOU TELL US WHAT HAPPENED TODAY?

“We were just racing there on a restart. I was side-by-side with Kasey Kahne and I saw the No. 15 (Clint Bowyer) get sideways and was just trying to avoid him and we both kind of got loose. I got loose. The car came around and it was just everything I could do to try to recover and not hit the No. 15. And then it spun around and got into the outside wall and tore-up the nose.

CAN YOU GET BACK OUT TO FINISH THIS RACE?

“Oh, yeah. We never give up. It’s unfortunate for our 3M Chevrolet. It’s not the way we want our day to go here. We didn’t start out fantastic, but we really made some gains on the first pit stop. I feel like we were going to continue to make gains and work our way to the front. But we’ll never know now. Yeah, it’s unfortunate way to end it.”
