From June 22 through June 26, 2015, San Diego Habitat for Humanity, in partnership with local homebuilders, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, and Lowe’s, will build four homes – from the ground up – in five days.
These homes represent the second phase of Habitat for Humanity’s Foundation Lane community – four homes were built in 2009 through a generous gift of nearly $1 million from the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. Jimmie Johnson and his wife, Chandra, return to El Cajon with another substantial donation of $50,000 from their foundation to help build the first four homes of the next phase of the development.
“Chandra and I are extremely excited to see phase two of this development become a reality,” said Johnson. “It’s great to see the progress of the families from phase one. We are proud to partner with Lowe’s, local builders and Habitat for Humanity to expand Foundation Lane and provide homes for more families.”
Lowe’s, proud racing sponsor of Johnson and longtime supporter of Habitat for Humanity, is donating another $50,000 to the build efforts in El Cajon.
“Lowe’s is committed to strengthening the communities where we live and work by helping ensure that all people have access to safe and affordable housing,” said Joan Higginbotham, director of community relations at Lowe’s. “We’re excited to help Habitat for Humanity and the Jimmie Johnson Foundation make a meaningful impact on the El Cajon community through the Home Builders Blitz.”
The completed homes will be sold to Habitat for Humanity Partner Families who qualify according to Habitat for Humanity’s family selection criteria – a demonstrated need for improved housing, the ability to repay an affordable mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat by completing 250-500 sweat-equity hours before moving into the homes.
