Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Celebrates Father’s Day with Special Video Series

Recognizing the unique family racing traditions of the Ford, Wood and Blaney families, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing has produced a special series of Father’s Day videos featuring Edsel B. Ford II and his sons, Calvin and Henry Ford III; Eddie and Len Wood; and Ryan Blaney.

In the first video, Edsel B. Ford II explains how his father, Henry Ford II, introduced him to racing at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans and how he learned about the not-so-glamorous side of racing during that same summer working for Carroll Shelby in his racing shop.

The second installment features Mr. Ford’s sons, Calvin and Henry III, talking about their first memories of racing at the Formula 1 Detroit Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500.

The third video recalls how the original Wood Brothers (NASCAR Hall of Famers Glen and Leonard) broke Glen’s sons into the NASCAR racing business as teenagers by having them do menial labor around the shop. That led to other tasks and increasing responsibility.

The final video has third-generation driver Ryan Blaney relating how at age 8 his father, sprint car and NASCAR veteran Dave Blaney, taught him to drive a quarter midget around trees in the family’s yard.

“The Ford, Wood and Blaney families each have an amazing racing heritage that spans multiple generations,” said Travis Hunt, Motorcraft Marketing and Motorsports manager. “For Father’s Day, we wanted to highlight how a father’s passion for racing gets passed to the next generation.”

Putting a more-intense spotlight on the heritage element of the videos are their locations. The Ford family segments were shot in front of Henry Ford’s iconic first race car, “Sweepstakes,” at Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Featured in the background is the Wood Brothers’ 2011 Daytona 500-winning No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion.

The Wood family video was shot at the Wood Brothers Museum in Stuart, Va., with Glen Wood’s red No. 16 “backseater” Ford race car in the background. The Blaney segment also was shot in Stuart, but with the present-day No. 21 Ford Fusion serving as backdrop.
