NSCS: All About Learning in Kyle Busch’s Sprint Cup Series Return

Kyle Busch made his return in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sprint All-Star race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday. Busch ran his first laps of the 2015 season in race conditions for the first time since Daytona back in February. Busch got injured in the NASCAR XFINITY Series opener at Daytona trying to push Erik Jones to the lead.

Learning the new rules package was the number one priority going into the night, especially for next Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600. Charlotte remains one of the numerous tracks that he does not have a win at in the Sprint Cup Series.

“It was really good,” said Busch. “I learned some things.  I think we also learned some stuff, myself and Adam Stevens, about this racecar, for me, and getting around here in Charlotte.  So we can take some of that next week and look forward to the Coke 600.”

Busch had some work to do when the green flag begun the Sprint All-Star race. The Las Vegas native started the 110-lap race in the 19th position after a bad run in qualifying. Busch was unable to lead any of the laps throughout the event.

“Real fortunate just to get back in the race car.  Get out there and feel things out.  Otherwise everything felt good and getting to pit road, all that, everything was fine,” said Kyle after the race. “Like I said, I felt like we had a fast racecar.  Bummed out we got busted for speeding and had a loose wheel.  Felt like we definitely could have raced our way in, maybe even the top five, and give it a shot to win, governing our final pit stop, which was good where we were at.

He ended the night with a sixth-place finish at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kyle’s brother, Kurt Busch, took his No. 41 Chevrolet to a third-place finish. His brother led 24 laps of the race.

Kyle’s teammate Denny Hamlin stole the All-Star race victory after winning the pole earlier in the day. Hamlin led 26 laps to earn his first victory in the annual non-points race.
