Biffle Involved In Late Race Accident Contributing to 30th-Place Finish at Bristol

The spring daytime race at Bristol Motor Speedway turned into a Sunday night race under the lights due to heavy rains throughout the day.  Biffle started the race 33rd after a spin in qualifying and worked his way into the top five before running short on fuel and having to pit under green.  The team was working on making up the lost laps when Biffle was collected in a late race accident.  Multiple pit stops for repairs left Biffle with a 30th-place finish.

The Sunday afternoon race started with a 22 lap opening run before being delayed for almost four hours due to rain.  Biffle started 33rd in his No. 16 Ortho Ford and worked his way up to 27th when the red flag came out for rain.

The field started back under yellow and Biffle pitted for four tires.  Green flag racing resumed until the competition caution came out on lap 60 due to the red flag rain delay.  Biffle stayed out on the track and restarted in the lead and paced the field for six laps.

Biffle was consistently running in the top 10 until, while under green, his Ford ran out of fuel leading to an unscheduled pit stop.  A caution came out just as Biffle was leaving pit road.  Biffle was able to take the “wave around” and get back one of the three laps he had lost.

While making gains on handling and regaining track position Biffle was collected in an accident towards the end of the 500 laps.  The contact was enough to bend the track bar and resulted in multiple trips down pit road for repairs.  The team was able to repair the Ortho Ford to make it to the end for the green-white-checkered finish.  Biffle crossed the finish line seven laps down to the leaders in the 30th position and is currently 20th in the point standings.
