NSCS: Duck Commander 500 Preview

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series goes back to the track this weekend for Saturday’s 18th annual Duck Commander 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway. The event marks the seventh of 36 scheduled races this season. Joey Logano comes into the weekend as the defending race winner.

The Sprint Cup Series entry list features 45 total drivers. With 45 entered, two drivers will be going home after qualifying. Ryan Blaney and Brendan Gaughan must qualify inside the top 36 in order to make the race. Other drivers scheduled to race this weekend include Mike Bliss, Alex Kennedy, Chris Buescher, Matt DiBenedetto and Michael McDowell.

Kyle Larson will pilot the No. 42 Chevrolet on Saturday after sitting out at the Martinsville Speedway nearly two weeks ago. Larson passed out during a driver appearence and had to be transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. The racing team asked Regan Smith to pilot the car while Larson recovered from the incident. Larson stated in his morning press conference that he’s taking extra steps this weekend to keep himself hydrated.

Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski come into the Texas Motor Speedway as the fan favorites to steal the victory. The two drivers led 193 laps throughout the event. Keselowski, who led 85 of those, came home with a 15th-place finish. Logano, who started from the 10th position, left the 1.5-mile oval with a shiny new throphy after leading 108 laps. The two drivers already hold two victories this season and look for more this weekend.

Denny Hamlin scored the victory two weekends ago at the Martinsville Speedway. Hamlin and the Joe Gibbs Racing team look to continue the momentum going into Texas this weekend. Hamlin has three top five finishes already this season and currently sits eighth in points.

You can catch the Duck Commander 500 on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Et. on FOX. The Performance Racing Network will provide the live radio coverage of the event.
