Last Lap Spin Results in 32nd-Place Finish for Biffle in Fontana

Greg Biffle qualified his No. 16 Clean Harbors Ford 29th at Fontana and throughout the race battled with front turn.  The handling woes cost Biffle track position, but pit strategy earned him a lead lap finish, despite a spin after contact on the final green-white-checkered finish.  Biffle continued on and ultimately crossed the finish line on the lead lap in 32nd.

Fontana was the conclusion of a three week west coast swing for the Sprint Cup Series and also the debut for Clean Harbors on the hood of the No. 16 Ford Fusion.  Biffle started the race from the 29th position and steadily picked up positions during the opening green flag run.

Biffle was up to 21st by the time the first caution came out for the field.  Needing front turn, Biffle pitted for four tires, fuel, air pressure and a left rear wedge adjustment.  The adjustments helped, but Biffle continued to need more.

Over the course of the race Biffle went a lap down twice while searching for front turn.  The opportunity to take the “wave around” and get back on the lead was an option each time and the team took advantage.

Multiple cautions in the closing laps setup the field for two green-white-checkered finishes.  Biffle gambled on the first and didn’t pit, taking the green in fourth, but the caution came out setting up the field for a second green-white-checkered finish.

The No. 16 got overtaken by fresh tires on the first green-white-checkered attempt, so for the final Biffle pitted for tires.  On the final lap contact with another car sent the Biffle spinning across the finish line one lap short of the checkered flag.  Biffle continued around the track to finish on the lead lap in 32nd.
