NASCAR penalizes Keselowski’s crew chief

Three weeks into the Sprint Cup season and NASCAR has penalized to the No. 2 team of Brad Keselowski.

NASCAR on Tuesday placed Keselowski crew chief Paul Wolfe on season-long probation after discovering the No. 2 Penske Ford team had altered a quarter-panel wheel opening. Classified as a “P2” infraction, there are no fines nor points deducted.

Keselowski qualified 11th and finished seventh in Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 400.

NASCAR also fined Justin Allgaier crew chief Steve Addington $25,000. Officials noticed ballast falling off Allgaier’s No. 51 Chevrolet during Sunday’s race in Las Vegas. The car did not meet the post-race minimum weight after the race.

“The issue was unintentional and we regret its occurrence,” team owner Harry Scott Jr. said in a statement. “Going forward, we have implemented additional procedures to ensure that we do not have a repeat incident. We accept NASCAR’s penalty and fully support its efforts to keep the sport as safe as possible for competitors, officials and fans.
