NSCS: Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Preview

JOPLIN, Mo. – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will invade the 1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday for the 56th annual Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. The race marks the second of 36 scheduled stops for the Sprint Cup Series in 2015. Kasey Kahne will come into the weekend as the defending race winner.

A total of 47 drivers make up the entry list for the weekend as four drivers will go home after qualifying on Friday. Some of the drivers entered include JJ Yeley, Jeb Burton, Reed Sorenson, Ron Hornaday Jr., Mike Bliss, Brian Scott, Joe Nemechek, Brett Moffitt, Brendan Gaughan, Mike Wallace and Matt DiBenedetto.

Joey Logano comes into the Atlanta Motor Speedway riding a wave of momentum after claiming the Daytona 500 victory nearly one weekend ago. Logano hopes to make series history on Sunday by becoming the fifth driver to score back-to-back victories following the Daytona 500. Who are the five drivers to do it? Those include Marvin Panch (1957), Bob Welborn (1959), David Pearson (1976), Jeff Gordon (1997) and Matt Kenseth (2009).

Two drivers come into the weekend making their first starts of the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Moffitt will pilot the No. 55 Toyota Camry, filling in for Brian Vickers who is recovering from offseason surgery. Brennan Gaughan, piloting the No. 62 Chevrolet, will drive the car in the next 35 races for Premium Motorsports. The team failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 with Brian Scott last Thursday.

Kasey Kahne barely made the Chase last season after taking his No. 5 Chevrolet to victory lane at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Kahne did so by leading the final two laps of the event, making it one of the best NASCAR highlights all season long. The Washington native looks to capture his fourth victory at the 1.54-mile track on Sunday.

Fans can watch the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at 12:30 p.m. Et. live on FOX. The Performance Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast of the event.
