Starting off the race in 36th, the No. 83 Dustless Blasting Toyota, driven by Johnny Sauter, had one goal, to stay out of trouble. The teams plan from the beginning was to lay low, and stay out of any wrecks, a trend that was not unfamiliar at Daytona. With 20 laps to go, the team had some work cut out for them. As the field was getting dicey, and the last play of the race was a Green, White, Checkered, Sauter hammered down and came home with an impressive 19th place finish, and an undamaged racecar.
"Man that was a heck of race out there, especially at the end with the Green, White, Checkered," Sauter commented. "You have a mental note in the back of your head that the "big one" is coming, and thankfully we were able to just race back to the finish, and come home with an unwrecked racecar and an 19th place finish. I have to thank this entire No. 83 Dustless Blasting team on all of their hard work the past two weeks. These guys gave me a great car, and when we wrecked on Thursday in the Duels, they busted their butts to get another one down here for the race. Great job by everyone at BK Racing."
Unfortunately, JJ Yeley, the driver of the No. 23 Maxim/Dr Pepper Toyota, was not as lucky. Maintaining a solid Top 15 throughout the entire course of the race, Yeley came in for green flag pit stops with 45 laps to go, and reported he couldn't shift gears. The guys pushed the car back to the garage and replaced a transmission, getting Yeley back out with just 10 laps remaining, leaving the No. 23 Maxim/Dr Pepper Toyota with a 40th place finish.
Driver JJ Yeley commented after the race, "I really hate this for my No. 83 Maxim Fantasy Sports App/Dr Pepper team. We had such a good run going all race, and my car was running great. We came in for the last pit stop under green, and I couldn't get my car to shift out of third gear. We did the best we could to get back out there and gain some positions, but unfortunately weren't able to move up any more positions. 40th doesn't reflect the hard work these guys put into this car, it's just a tough break to end the two weeks here in Daytona with mechanical issues."
The BK Racing organization heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Folds of Honor 500 on Sunday, with JJ Yeley in the No. 23 Dr Pepper Toyota, Matt Dibenedetto in the No. 83 Burger King Toyota and Jeb Burton in the No. 26 Maxim Fantasy Sports App Toyota as Primary sponsors for the second race of the season.
